Love at First Bite!

By Tish | Filed in Vendors

I recently made a trip to Cincinnati to meet with planners and potential vendors. We have several vendors that help make our kid’s reception memorable.  Tamara of Events by WE turned me on to Sugar Cupcakery in Milford OH.  I paid a visit to the bakery, which is in adorable downtown Milford.  As soon as I found out that they were an  organic bakery and also offer VEGAN and GLUTEN-FREE cupcakes, I knew that I’d found my Cincinnati cupcake vendor.  Sugar Cupcakery was recently featured on the first epsisode of the  Food Network’s latest show Cupcake Wars.

Turning Six and Headed West!

By Tish | Filed in Uncategorized

June 2 marks our 6th year anniversary! Yes, I know, you only became familiar with us about two years ago when we re-branded and got serious about our marketing strategy.  The company has seen a lot of growth in the last 12 months with expansion in South Carolina and North Carolina. Elegant Event Sitters, Inc. has been fortunate enough to partner with several 4 Diamond Rated venues in the southeast. I am so honored to be working with such great vendors in the wedding industry in Atlanta and now in North Carolina and my staff makes my job SO much easier.

I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even had time to tweet (imagine that)!  For the past few weeks, I’ve been buried under a piles of virtual government paperwork trying to get things in order for our new cities that are launching in two short weeks.  I am proud to see the Elegant Event Sitters, Inc. brand offer parents the opportunity to Party in Peace™ in Cincinnati, Lexington, Orange County, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Seattle. I been in contact with tons of great vendors in all of these areas and I am so excited  the new opportunities.

Yesterday, vendors from 3 Studio Wed locations came together to create a fabulous workshop for brides. The Wedding Experience was held at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead. Our experts covered everything from invitations to the reception.  We were joined by expert event designer Tara Guerard. She gave some great advice and signed copies of her new book Weddings.

Atlanta’s Dynamic Duo

By Tish | Filed in Vendors

A couple of weeks ago I enlisted the help of Project Duo to get some headshots taken for a new ad. Courtney and Zahra eagerly accepted the challenge of making me look like I actually enjoy having my picture taken. I’ve seen their work and knew that if anyone could work a miracle, these two could. I hate being in pictures because I hate the way that my face “squishes” when I smile and I look like I am in some kind of pain when I try to fake a smile. Fortunately these ladies kept me laughing the entire time and I had a blast shooting with them, so fake smiles weren’t needed.

Party in Peace North Carolina

By Tish | Filed in Events
In the last 7 days, I’ve made 2 trips to Western North Carolina introducing Elegant Event Sitters, Inc to the awesome wedding vendors and venues in that area.  I was totally intrigued by the desire for eco-friendly weddings in the Asheville area. We strive to be as green as possible by using only homemade laundry detergent, non-toxic art and cleaning supplies as well as an alcohol-free based hand sanitizer. You won’t find paper plates or plastic cups in our inventory.  I had the pleasure of getting to know three great planners in the Asheville area Nicole Riley of Studio Wed Asheville, Shay Brown of Palattes of Perfection and Emily McCollin of Occasions by Emily. We had awesome feed back in Charlotte from thedowntown hotels and the Charlotte Convention and Visitors Bureau. We are in the process of developing partnerships with these hotels as preferred vendors, including three 4-Diamond Rated venuesGrand Bohemian of Asheville, Old Edwards Inn of Highlands  and the Ballantyne of Charlotte.

Next stops… Birmingham and Greenville!

Lily Pads and Locomotives

By Tish | Filed in Events

This holiday season is off to a super busy start! Cameryn, my 8 year old daughter, and I braved the cold and headed to the North Carolina mountains for the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad’s Polar Express Train Ride. Bryson City, NC is approximately 3 hours north of Atlanta. Cameryn and I opted for the First Class train ride which would cost a family of four about $200. Our ride started with a song and hot cocoa being served in our souvenier mugs along with some snacks and a marshmallow treat. As we continued our ride to the North Pole, we listened to The Polar Express being read as we followed along in our book. The journey is mostly people’s homes decorated for Christmas and Santa was on his sleigh greeting us as we arrived. Cameryn wasn’t impressed with Santa’s fake reindeer so I started thinking that she may be a little too old for the ride. Once Santa boarded the train, he began to pass out the bells that looked just like the bell from Santa’s sleigh in the storybook. In the book, only those who believe in the spirit of Christmas can hear the bell ringing. Cameryn shook her bell and it didn’t make much of a sound. I asked her if she believed and she said yes and tried to ring it again. Her face instantly lit up as she heard the sound. As we made our way back to the train station, she slipped her bell into her robe pocket and we participated in the Christmas sing-along. She has been sleeping with the bell every night since. I hope that she never stops believing.

As we returned to Atlanta, we headed to our Princess and the Frog party hosted by my friend Erika. There were about 20 of us on the mother/daughter outing. We started out at California Pizza Kitchen and then walked over to Regal in Atlantic Station. I hadn’t heard much of the discussion surrounding the movie in previous weeks, so I didn’t know what to expect of Disney’s first African-American princess. What I discovered was that I was totally in love with the movie. Tiana didn’t appear to be the typical damsel-in-distress associated with the previous princess movies.  She’s a very strong budding entrepreneur with a lot of determination (something all great entrepreneurs possess!) I loved the fact that she wasn’t looking to be rescued by the Prince and scolded him for his lack of drive and motivation. Moping on your lily pad is not going to get you anywhere.  The message was clear: hard work does pay off but you’ve got to balance it out with a little fun too! Girl power at it’s finest!

We rounded out the weekend with the memorial service of the death of one of Cameryn’s schoolmates. It was a shocking reminder that we don’t know how long we are going to live and the possiblity is still there that we may not see our children grow up to do great things. Cameryn and I were extremely saddened by this shocking news. I realized that at times I am working too much and not savoring the moments as if they may be our last.

Take a lesson from the Princess and the Frog, what you need is not always what you want. Embrace that and your dreams will indeed come true.

Last week, I had the pleasure of being a guest on the Moms Empowering Moms radio show hosted by Holly Suso. It was nice to finally hear the voices of the other mompreneurs that I have been reading about and following online. I learned quite a few things, including that I have absolutely no work/life balance. As a mompreneur, I find myself working all of the time with no schedule. I have been taking calls as late as midnight! Scandalous right???
The other moms have such great businesses so please take a moment to check out their sites. Here is a link to the show… yes, I hate the sound of my voice :(

It’s a Blogalicious Weekend

By Tish | Filed in Coventions

This past weekend was the busiest weekend that we’ve had to date. There were 5 weddings plus 3 days of Blogalicious Weekend 2009. I am so proud of my staff they worked hard and I couldn’t have done it without them. The Animal Stuffing Station was in great demand. There were 4 events that had the upgrade. The children stuffed Teddy Bats in honor of Halloween. They are so adorable! Blogalicous Weekend was so much fun! I was able to sit in on some of the sessions and learned A LOT about the wide world of blogging. I had no idea that it is such a big deal. I was inspired to start writing more
